Brice Matthews, a former Husker All-American, was selected by Major League Baseball to participate in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game. The game will be Saturday, July 12, at Truist Park in Atlanta as part of the MLB All-Star Game festivities.

For Triple-A Sugar Land in the Astros system, he’s hitting .285 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI with 23 stolen bases. He was picked in the first round with the No. 23 pick in 2023 and has risen through the Astros system to succeed for the Space Cowboys. He is currently tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in triples, third in stolen bases, tied for fifth in walks and 10th in OBP among qualified batters.

Matthews will be one of 25 players on the American League roster, facing 25 players from National League teams. The game will be televised nationally on the MLB Network.

Matthews is the fifth former Husker to play in the Futures Game, joining Jamal Strong (2001), Alex Gordon (2006), Joba Chamberlain (2007) and Spencer Schwellenbach (2023). All four Huskers eventually reached the Major Leagues after playing in the Futures Game.
