Two Siblings From North Star High School Killed in Crash

The two people killed in Monday afternoon’s crash near Antelope Valley Parkway and Virginia were a brother and sister from North Star High School.  Police say the vehicle they were in was speeding on rain slickened roads around 1:30 p.m.

Sergeant Dave Nelson tells KLIN News the car was heading north when it lost control, hit the curb on the east side of the road, lost control and began to hydroplane.  He says the car then went sideways and was struck by a southbound pickup.

North Star principal Megan Kroll sent a message to parents Monday night saying Karolin and Karwan Breem were the ones killed in the crash.  Karwan was expected to graduate this week from summer school and North Star.  Karolin was going to be a 10th grade student at North Star.

“Our thoughts are with the Breem family, and Karolin and Karwan’s friends during this difficult time,” Kroll says.  “The LPS Crisis Team is available to support your student should they need assistance during this difficult time.”

Clay Hollman is the summer school principal and says they understand this news can be difficult for families, even if they did not know Karolin or Karwan. “It is not unusual for you to have many unanswered questions and a variety of emotions after hearing this information. We have counselors, social workers, and school psychologists here to offer support along with the Lincoln Public Schools Crisis Team.
