Lincoln Police have arrested a man following a disturbance early Monday morning that involved a bicyclist. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says officers were called to 46th and Cleveland around 2:45a.m.
He says witnesses told police a man was seen throwing a bike and struck additional vehicles with his Jeep while leaving the area.
“Arriving officers located 53-year-old Harold Campbell near his Jeep, which had struck a utility pole. “Further investigation discovered the Jeep is suspected to have struck a parked 2009 Cadillac, a road sign, and the west wall of a building before striking the utility pole.”
During the investigation, Vollmer says officers found a 62 year-old-man, who they believe is the owner of the bike that was tossed, in medical distress. LFR transported him to the hospital in serious condition.
“The investigation indicates Campbell and the 62-year-old-man are known to each other and were involved in some kind of altercation prior to this incident.” Vollmer says it’s not known if the victim received injuries from being hit by the Jeep or in some other manner. Due to his condition, Vollmer says the victim has not yet been interviewed.
After receiving treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries, Campbell was booked into the Lancaster County Jail for leaving the scene of an accident, DUI and refusing to submit to a pre-test.
