The Lincoln City Council unanimously voted to appoint Dan Marvin as the next Urban Development Director on Monday, returning him to the role he held for 4 years from 2019-2023.

Marvin will succeed Peter Hind, who succeeded Marvin at the time of taking office in 2023. Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced Marvin would earn her nomination in mid-April, saying he “brings deep experience, trusted leadership, and a track record of delivering results” to the role.

Hind will be leaving the city, has he accepted a job with the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Design in Lawrence, Kansas. His last day with the City will be August 1.

Marvin is no stranger to city hall. Beyond his previous tenure on in the Urban Development Department, he also served as an at-large City Council member from 2005-2009, and prior to that was a member of the Lincoln Lancaster County Planning Commission. Further, he was the Secretary Executive Director of the West Haymarket Joint Public Agency from 2009 to 2013.

“I’ve always had an open door policy, an open email policy. We’ll certainly respond to any constituents questions you have. I’m very proud of the four years that I had at Urban Development,” said Marvin before the council. “I think of us as a can-do department, and we will work to address any constituent concerns that you have and address them in a timely manner.”

Marvin quipped to the council, his return won’t feature much of a learning curve. “It’s like I was gone for two weeks because I have the same email address that I had before, [the same] log in with the city computers,” he said.

“Welcome back home,” said Councilman James Michael Bowers.
