Lincoln Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for a mini-crime spree. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says around 7:30 Wednesday morning police were called to the area of 13th and E streets on the report of a man with a shotgun.
“Officers contacted a 62-year-old Lincoln man who told them he was sitting in his friend’s 2014 green Honda Accord when a man, later identified as 25-year-old Shakye Patterson Edwards of Lincoln, approached him, pulled a shotgun from under a blanket and shot through the driver’s side window at him, breaking the window but not hitting the victim.”
Thomas says the victim kicked at the suspect through the window and he ran off. Around 10:30 that night police responded to a burglary at Moore Pawn near 16th and ‘M’ where a window and display case had been broken and a red electric guitar stolen.
“The burglar had also opened multiple handgun cases, but those guns were locked up in a different case,” Thomas says. “Investigators collected blood and fingerprints from the scene, along with physical evidence, including a bag with an ID and credit card belonging to Edwards.”
On Thursday an officer saw Edwards walking on 17th Street and took him into custody, wearing what appeared to be the same clothing seen on surveillance video from both incidents. Thomas says he also had dried blood on his hands, arms and clothing.
He was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for burglary, attempted assault, use of a weapon to commit a felony and discharging a firearms near a vehicle.
