Lincoln Police and LFR crews were called to the Sumner Place Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facility near 20th and Prospect  around 12:15 Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into the front of the building. “When officers arrived, they found a gray van lying on its passenger side against the building with the female driver and sole occupant of the vehicle still inside,” says LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas.

“According to witness accounts, the vehicle was speeding east when it went over the curb of S. 20th, hit a retaining wall, a tree, a pillar support of a car port and then flipped on its side.”  Thomas says the van then hit the front glass doors of the facility.  The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

“At this time, it’s believed alcohol may have been a factor in the crash,” Thomas says.  The investigation is ongoing.
