Kyle Nicholson has been hired as the Director of Player Development for the Nebraska baseball team by coach Will Bolt Monday.
Nicholson spent 2025 as the pitching coach at Mercyhurst and three season as the pitching coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 2022-24.
Nicholson powered a three-season turnaround for the IUP Crimson Hawks. In his first year, IUP made a 25-win improvement in 2022. Two years later, he helped lead the Crimson Hawks to 41-18 and one win shy of the DII College World Series while finishing the year ranked No. 4.
A native of College Station, Texas, Nicholson played at Texas A&M from 2004-07, including the last two seasons of his Aggies career for current NU pitching coach Rob Childress. His senior year, Nicholson was 11-3 with four saves and a 2.25 ERA while earning All-America honors and National Pitcher of the Year finalist status.
Nicholson was drafted in the seventh round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants and played three years in the Giants minor-league system before beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 2011-12, helping the Aggies to the Men’s College World Series in 2011.
