A 20-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized Wednesday evening after crashing into a car at S. 70th and A Street, just minutes after fleeing a traffic stop.
According to Lincoln Police Lieutenant Jason Goodwin, an officer initially attempted to stop a blue Suzuki motorcycle near 52nd and O Street around 8 p.m. on August 6. The rider sped off eastbound, and officers did not pursue due to safety concerns.
Shortly afterward, the motorcycle collided with a white 2016 Mazda 6 near S. 70th Street. Investigators say the Mazda, driven by a 46-year-old Lincoln woman, was merging lanes when the motorcycle struck the car while speeding excessively.
The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. Police confirmed the motorcycle was the same one that fled the earlier stop. The investigation is ongoing.
