Residents are invited to a public open house on Thursday, August 21, to learn more about the Safe Streets Lincoln initiative and provide input on the Vision Zero Action Plan.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) says the event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Elementary School (225 South 25th Street).
Safe Streets Lincoln is a local initiative, part of the national Vision Zero campaign, aimed at reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 60% by 2045. The program considers traffic safety to be a public health issue.
The Vision Zero Action Plan will identify key safety priorities, recommend strategies, and chart a path toward zero traffic deaths. Two task forces, one made up of community members and another of City staff, are guiding development to ensure the plan reflects both lived experience and cross-departmental coordination.
LTU and project team members will share safety data, present preliminary system-wide strategies, and invite feedback from attendees. Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share insights that support safer streets.
