The Sheldon Museum of Art will open its new Go Big Red exhibition on Aug. 16, featuring works from its collection selected by 45 guest curators from across the University of Nebraska community.
The exhibit is a collaborative effort between 45 different co-curators, each selecting a work from the museum’s collection that features the color red—the school color chosen by University of Nebraska students in 1892.
Head football coach Matt Rhule contributed to the project, selecting the photograph “Football Kick” by Harold Edgerton. He described the piece as “a pivotal moment in the game—one that every coach has experienced, whether in triumph or heartbreak.”
The exhibition includes paintings, photographs, prints and sculptures, personally chosen by students, faculty, coaches, administrators and friends of the university. Director Susan Longhenry said the project brings the spirit of the Husker rallying cry “Go Big Red” to their galleries.
“We’re excited to extend that spirit into the museum’s galleries,” Longhenry said.
Organized by curator Erin Hanas, Go Big Red runs through Dec. 31 at Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets. For more information, visit sheldonartmuseum.org.
