LPD Warns About Scammer Posing as Police Sergeant

By Tom Stanton Aug 19, 2025 | 12:44 PM
Lincoln Police have  issued a scam alert after a woman got a call from someone posing as an LPD sergeant.  Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the person on the other end of the phone claimed to be Sgt. Alton or Aldon saying she had to pay $500 for an ankle monitor program for someone in jail.
“She sent it through CashApp, but he called back again, pressuring her to send more,” Thomas says. The woman then realized it was a scam and did not send any more money.  Thomas says look for red flags should you receive a similar call.
“LPD will never ask you for money, in person or over the phone. There is no Sergeant Alton/Aldon at LPD.”  You can protect yourself by asking for their name, badge and case number.  You can also call LPD non-emergency at 402-441-6000 to verify an officer’s identity, employment status and attempt to contact you.
“If this happens to you, please do not pay and report it to LPD immediately,” Thomas says.
