Two Hour Drunk Driving Spree Ends With Arrest

Lincoln Police were called to 58th and Holdrege around 5 p.m. on July 21st for a hit and run accident.  Several mailboxes and a trailer home had been hit by a green pickup.

Two hours later, police saw that pickup driving down a sidewalk near 40th and Cornhusker with two flat tires.  The pickup still took off.  Police then got a call the truck was at 12th and Belmont, driving through yards and hitting mailboxes.  Police found the truck at 11th and Garber after it struck a truck belonging to Allow.

At that location, Police found 27 year old Mark Nickel.  Officers found open beer cans inside the truck. He was taken to The Bridge for treatment after refusing a breath test.

Nickel was cited for DUI, refusal of a chemical test, refusal of a preliminary test, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a revoked and suspended license, reckless driving and violation of the open container law.

It is believed he hit three houses, one vehicle, four mailboxes and a street sign.  The total damage amounts are not yet known.
