COVID-19 Motion For Meat Packers Protection Fails To Pass

A Legislative motion filed by Nebraska State Senator Tony Vargas to suspend the rules to permit the introduction of a new bill regarding new state-mandated safety restrictions due to COVID-19 was debated on the floor today.

The goal was to add more protections to workers at meat and poultry processing facilities. The motion fell two votes short of the 30 needed to introduce the bill this session.

Meat packing facilities were among the hardest hit by COVID-19 earlier this year and many had to shut down due to health concerns.
