Lincoln Police say a dump truck driver escaped serious injuries after crashing into a light pole at 56th and Old Cheney around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Captain Todd Kocian says the 74 year old driver told police he was westbound and as he approached 56th Street his breaks failed.
“To avoid colliding with the vehicles ahead of him, he drove off the roadway and struck a traffic signal pole,” Kocian says. The driver was
transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
LPD says clean up of the intersection continued throughout the and returned to normal traffic just after 10:00 p.m. Damage to the signal pole is estimated at $75,000 and damage to the dump truck is estimated at $60,000.
No citations have been issued and the investigation is ongoing.
