The Lincoln Police Department would like to welcome two new police service dogs.  Koby, assigned to Officer Matthew Pulec, is an almost 2 year old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois who is the first explosives detection certified canine for LPD.  Koby is also certified in patrol which includes, building searches, suspect apprehension, tracking, and evidence detection.

Jet, assigned to Officer Christopher Howard, is an almost 2 year old Belgian Malinois certified in narcotics detection and patrol.

Koby and Jet were both purchased from Canine Tactical of Iowa.  Each service dog trained for 13 weeks with their handler and then passed rigorous certification tests.  Officer Pulec, a 12 year veteran, and Officer Howard, a 13 year veteran have been canine handlers with LPD for 7 years.

Their previous dogs were Mikey and Yuri who are in the process of being retired.  Mikey served for 7 years and Yuri served for 6 ½ years.  They will ultimately be privately purchased by their handlers to live at home with them during retirement.
