Lincoln Police make an arrest in a series of bike thefts dating back to June. Police were called on June 23rd to a hotel in the 100 block of N 9th Street after a bike valued at $5,000 and locked to a vehicle had been taken. Police say the lock had been cut.
On August 13th at 8:30 p.m., police were called to a disturbance at 41st and Pioneer Woods Drive. A man told police he saw another man riding away on a co-worker’s bicycle that had been chained to a pole nearby. The co-worker confronted the suspected and told him to drop the bike. The suspect threw the bike down and then pulled out a pocket knife and threatened the victim. The man ended up running away and he got into a waiting vehicle. The worker got the license plate number and investigators identified the suspect as 44 year old Vincent Scotch. The bike was valued at $750.
Prior to that attempted theft, a bike chained to a tree had been stolen from the Dairy Queen at 26th and Whitehead Drive. That bike was valued at $150 and security vide gathered in the case showed a man and a woman taking the bike and putting it into the back of the truck The man was also identified by police as Scotch.
Scotch was located at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6th at 51st and N Street and was taken into custody without incident. Scotch was booked on a felony theft warrant, several theft charges, for making terroristic threats and for use of a weapon to commit a felony.
The female that was with Scotch has been identified as 30 Brooke Hughes who was also sited for theft.
