The Nebraska Department of Labor reports there were 280 more new unemployment claims filed last week, up 9.6-percent from the week before. For the week ending October 3rd, there were 3.199 new unemployment claims filed compared to 2.919 for the week ending September 26th. The number of new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claims fined jumped 5.4% to 1.770, up from 1,680 from the week before.
Continued unemployment claims totaled 16,525 for the week ending October 3rd, a 10.5% decrease from the week before. However, continued pandemic unemployment assistance claims jumped to 34,713 last week, up 7.3% from the week ending September 26th when 32.347 claims were filed.
Total payments for the week of September 27th through October 3rd totaled $8.1 million, including $1.3 million in lost wages assistance payments. 135,950 individuals were paid during the pandemic.
Regular unemployment insurance benefits paid since March 29th totals $293,397,142. Pandemic Unemployment Assistance payments to gig workers and self employed totaled $61,404,720.
