A Lincoln Police officer is recovering after being dragged by a vehicle at 71st and Van Dorn around 3:15 Wednesday morning.
Officers were called to an apartment complex on a report that someone was trying to get on top of garages. An officer saw a vehicle pulling out of the complex with expired license plates and conducted a traffic stop. The driver refused to roll down his window and refused to provide identification for himself or paperwork for the vehicle. The name he finally provided the officer was later to be determined false. Officers were able to identify the man as 28-year-old Logan Vonseggern who was driving on a suspended license. The officer and a supervisor also decided to arrest Vonseggern due to a history of failure to appear in court.
Vonseggern refused to exit the vehicle and became argumentative. The officer reached into the vehicle through a small crack and attempted to unlock the door. At this time, Vonseggern took off while the officer’s arm was lodged inside the window. The officer was dragged on the outside of the vehicle for about a block before falling to the ground. A rescue squad was called and the officer was taken to a hospital to be checked out for injuries to an arm and leg. He was treated and released.
Around 5:30 am, Vonseggern was located in an apartment in the 5600 block of S 31st. The tenant allowed officers to search his residence and Vonseggern was found hiding in a closet and was taken into custody without incident. Vonseggern was arrested for 2nd Degree Assault on a Police Officer, Operate Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Suspended License, and False information to a Police Officer.
