On October 10th just before 3 am, police were called to the Kwik Shop at 2710 W Street on a hold up alarm. When officers arrived the clerk reported that a man came into the store and pulled out a pistol. The man demanded money, alcohol, and cigarettes and then fled on foot from the store with those items. Officers processed the scene, canvassed the area, and are analyzing video evidence.
Investigators spoke with witnesses who had identified the person responsible as 20 year old Earl Hayes from the Crime Stoppers post that showed video stills from the store security video.
On October 16th, the clerk reported that a man who was not wearing a mask came in to the gas station asking other employees questions about the robbery. A few days later the clerk saw a man was arrested for a separate robbery on the news. That robbery was on October 22nd and Hayes was located nearby the scene. The clerk indicated that this was the same man that was seen coming back into the store on the 16th and who robbed her on the 10th. The man featured in the news was Hayes.
On November 10th, Hayes was contacted at the Lancaster County Jail as he was lodged for unrelated charges and arrested for Robbery and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.
