Two State Senators want Governor Pete Ricketts to ease COVID-19 restrictions.
State Senators Steve Halloran and Steve Erdman want to resume normal school and business activities in Nebraska right away.
Governor Pete Ricketts partially agrees with the Senators.
“First of all, I agree with them 100 percent, I want to open the state as soon as possible.”
But the Governor noted at his Monday coronavirus briefing he plans to keep his current plan in place so as not to overwhelm the health care system.
“That’s what we’re working to manage this to. We’ve got our stay home, stay healthy here until the end of April and we are going to continue to focus on that,” he says.
The article from Halloran and Erdman also suggest herd immunity is a solution to solving the new coronavirus.
Ricketts plans to start slowly loosening things up, if appropriate, after the month ends.
The Governor received numerous questions over the last couple of weeks why the state hasn’t moved toward a state-wide order to shelter-in-place. He’s also heard criticism by some Nebraska lawmakers.
But he still focuses on following the directed health measures.
