Since January 1st, there have been 59 investigations of catalytic converters stolen from vehicles. That is more than reported in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 combined.
The estimated loss from these cases is around $55,000. In most but not all cases, it appears that commercial vehicles and businesses are targeted. Customarily, power tools are used to remove the converter that is located under the vehicle. Consider where you are parking vehicles overnight especially when left unattended in a commercial lot. Investing in exterior security cameras where vehicles are parked can assist in identifying people responsible.
This is a map of targeted areas.
In 2020, there were 274 reports of catalytic converter thefts made with a total loss and damage amount of almost $210,000.
