A 19 year old driver is lucky to be alive after a roll-over accident around 2:30 a.m. on February 10th.  Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to the 5600 block of O Street.  When officers arrived they found a 2000 Toyota Avalon on its side after colliding with two vehicles in the Sid Dillon car lot.

The vehicle was westbound on O street when the driver lost control and struck the north curb of O street.  That caused the vehicle to overturn and continue until colliding with the cars in the auto lot.

The driver was not hurt and refused treatment.  Officer then observed the driver was showing signs of being under the influence and was given a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test.    It was determined that he was under the influence and was transported for formal testing.  At The Bridge, the driver tested 0.156 and was arrested for DUI, MIP, and Negligent Driving.

  1. Plan ahead. If you will be drinking, do not plan on driving. Designate a sober driver for the evening or arrange for alternative transportation in advance.
  2. If you are impaired, do not drive and find another way home. Use a taxi, shared ride service or call a friend or family member.
  3. Be responsible. If someone you know has been drinking, do not let them get behind the wheel. If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actions could save your life or someone else’s.
