Lincoln Police say a woman was critically injured after falling 50 feet inside an old grain elevator near downtown Lincoln late Tuesday night.  Captain Todd Kocian says officers and LFR crews were called to 6th and ‘J’ Street around 10:20 p.m.

“Rescue personnel located a 19-year-old female who was later transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries,” Kocian says.  “Officers contacted an 18-year-old male who said they were hanging out with two other friends and decided to go to the grain silos.”

Kocian says he remained outside while the others entered the silo. “A few minutes later he heard someone yelling that the female had fell. He then called 911 and remained at the scene until rescue personnel arrived.”

LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman said crews encountered dark and dangerous conditions and they extricated the woman from an existing 14-by-30 inch hole in the concrete silo.  They were able to put the woman on a board and bring her out.
