Nebraska’s baseball’s up-and-down, hot-and-cold 2025 season came to an ugly end Sunday as Oklahoma hammered the Huskers, 17-1, in the elimination bracket of the Chapel Hill regional.

The Sooners established control of the game in the top of the first, in which Nebraska committed three errors, leading to three unearned Oklahoma runs. A six-run, seven-hit third inning removed all doubt from the contest, and the Sooners tacked on one more run in the fourth for good measure. The Sooners led 10-0 through five innings, while Nebraska had piled up five errors. After another five-run inning for Oklahoma in the sixth, the Huskers finally posted their only run of the game when Dylan Carey singled in a run.

Will Walsh (4-8) took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) in two innings of work. The Sooners piled up 18 hits on the game, led by Sam Christiansen. He was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Easton Carmichael was 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. Cade Crossland (5-5) was dominant for seven innings for OU, allowing just one unearned run and five hits while striking out nine. Riley Silva and Hogan Helligso both had two hits to pace the Huskers.

Nebraska’s season ends with a 33-29 record. Hampered by an injury to preseason All-American starting pitcher Mason McConnaughey, the Huskers stumbled to a 10-14 start overall, including a 2-7 start in Big Ten play that had many worried that NU would miss the Big Ten tournament. But a 13-8 finish in conference play including five straight series wins to end Big Ten play ensured that Nebraska qualified to defend its Big Ten tournament championship. That defense looked to be on the ropes with two out in the bottom of the ninth in the first game of the tourney against Michigan State, in which a Husker loss would’ve ended any chance to win the tournament. But the fly ball was dropped, allowing Nebraska to stay alive and ultimately win, 5-4. After a rain-delayed win over Oregon in the second pool play game, the Huskers defeated Penn State and UCLA to capture the conference tournament championship for the second straight year and advance to regionals.
