This week marks Severe Weather Awareness week in Nebraska — the perfect time to make sure you and the people you care for are prepared for severe weather this season. As your local public power utility, LES is here to help.
“Nebraska is susceptible to all types of severe weather so, this week, we’ll provide tips on how to prepare for severe weather and potential storm-related power outages,” said Kelley Porter, LES customer and corporate communications manager. “We urge families, businesses, schools and communities to build a kit, practice your plan, and be prepared for severe weather.”
Don’t get left in the dark. Before storm strike, make sure you’re prepared in case the power goes out:
- Update your info with LES. Our outage-reporting system, LES PowerLine, matches your phone number to your service address. Make sure to keep your information updated to avoid reporting an outage at an old address. Visit com/powerline to update your info today.
- Put together an emergency kit. Start with the essentials: food (bottled water and non-perishable food items), light (flashlight or lantern) and a way to stay informed (a battery-operated radio or TV). Don’t forget extra batteries! More tips at com/outage-education.
- Know how to report an outage. LES has two ways for you to report an outage: online at com/report or over the phone via PowerLine at 888.365.2412. Keep an eye on LES’ outage map and social media to stay in the know.
LES is continually working to keep the lights on, but outages still happen. “During an outage, we address potentially life-threatening situations and restoring power to hospitals, fire stations and other critical community services,” Porter said.
