Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 1st State Bank in Hickman around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning to investigate the attempted theft of an ATM. A caller alerted authorities that two men were trying to take the ATM located outside the bank at 68th and Hickman Road.

Sheriff Terry Wagner says the ATM was still at the location but had an estimated $5,000 in damage. The suspects apparently looped the chain around the ATM and tried to remove it with a pickup. The chain broke breaking the windows of the pickup. Wagner says the pickup had been reported stolen around 4:30 a.m. from a home north of Hickman. Damage to the pickup is estimated at $5,000.

This is one of several recent attempted ATM thefts in the area. Investigators are working to determine if they are related.
