Lincoln Police believe a man was driving under the influence when he crashed into a tree near 60th and Platte Avenue in the Havelock neighborhood just before 8:00 Thursday night.  “The investigation revealed a Honda Ridgeline was westbound on Platte Avenue at a high rate of speed and attempted to navigate a right hand turn to go northbound,”  LPD Lieutenant Michelle Jochum tells KLIN News.

“The vehicle could not make the turn due to speed, left the roadway and collided with the tree.”  Jochum says 42-year-old Ron Leafty was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, became uncooperative and resisted the officers attempts to detain him.  He sustained minor injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

Leafty’s passenger, a 43-year-old Lincoln woman, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.  Jochum says her injuries are non-life threatening.  After he was released from the hospital Leafty was arrested and was taken to the Lancaster County Jail where he was booked for DUI causing serious bodily injury, driving during license revocation and resisting arrest.
