Lincoln Police say an Ashland man has been arrested for impersonating an officer after he turned on red and blue lights to stop a drunk driver near Highway 77 and W. Van Dorn around 12:15 Monday morning.
Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the man called 911 to say he was a volunteer firefighter. “20-year-old Braxton Devor told officers he had witnessed a white VW Jetta pass him on the shoulder and then come into his lane, almost causing a collision.” Thomas says he activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle and called dispatch but never got out of his vehicle.
Devor was arrested and taken to the Lancaster County Jail. “On Monday around 9 a.m., it was confirmed Devor is not a volunteer firefighter for Ashland Fire and Rescue and it is unknown at this time how he obtained emergency lights,” Thomas says.
LPD officers determined the 33-year-old driver of the White Jetta was intoxicated and she was cited and released for DUI. Her 40-year-old passenger was cited and released for open container.
