Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers has issued cease and desist letters to 82 Lincoln stores accused of selling mislabeled and potentially illegal THC-containing products.

The action expands the AG’s statewide crackdown on synthetic cannabis. In total, Hilgers’ office has now sent notices to 204 stores across Nebraska, citing alleged violations of consumer protection and food safety laws.

Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office conducted test purchases at 39 local companies. Officials say every store sold at least one product labeled as hemp that actually contained delta-9 THC concentrations above the legal limit, classifying it as marijuana. Over 90% of products had labels that incorrectly identified the contents.

“This industry has shown itself to be completely irresponsible,” Hilgers said in a statement. “It operates without regard to the health or safety of Nebraskans by selling these poisonous and mislabeled products into the Capital City.”

Retailers have been asked to halt sales immediately and return signed settlements agreeing to comply. Those that do not may face litigation.
