The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says a 62-year-old woman received an unsolicited email from Pay Pal on June 18 and called the number provided. “They tricked her in that she needed to pay $30,000 and she went to the bank and got out of her saving’s account,” says Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.
The woman then took the money and put it into two different bitcoin ATM’s and sent it to the scammer. Houchin says the victim has since filed a report with the FCC and the Nebraska Attorney General’s office.
“But it’s very difficult for us to get the money back,” Houchin says.
