Lincoln animal control officers were busy during the this weekend’s sweltering heat.  “We received six calls about dogs being left in hot cars and we ended up issuing three citations to those owners,” says manager Denise Bollwitt.

She tells KLIN News four of those citations were issued to an Idaho man who left his four dogs inside a vehicle with the windows rolled up at the Gateway Mall while he searched for his son inside the mall.

Bollwitt says it took them about 45 minutes to contact the owner after finding a phone number on a collar.  LPD assisted in the rescue and were able to get the dogs out.  Two other citations were issued to two other out-of-town travelers.

“The dogs were actually okay, but we had an extreme heat warning going on this weekend and there was absolutely no reason for any animals to be in any vehicles,” Bollwitt says.
