Investigators believe a pair of fires early Thursday morning at an apartment building were deliberately set.  At 3:18 am, Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a fire at 1626 D St.  Crews arrived to a 4-story apartment complex and found a pile of trash on fire outside a first floor apartment window.   The fire caused smoke damage inside of a utility room.  The fire was quickly put out by crews.

At 5:45 am firefighters were called back to the scene.  Crews found smoke coming from the 2nd story of the building.  The fire started on a mattress and was contained to the single apartment and extinguished quickly.

LFR’s Nancy Christ says all residents had been evicted from the building so the owners could begin renovations.  All of the residents were supposed to be out of the building by midnight, but several of them were still there at the time of the fires.

The fire caused $25,000 in damages and is being investigated as arson.
