A Lincoln man escaped injury but lost his boat in a fire at Branched Oak Lake Thursday morning.

According to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the 35-year-old man was the only person aboard his 2001 Baja motorboat when it caught fire following mechanical issues. He attempted to extinguish the flames with two fire extinguishers but was unsuccessful.

Conservation Officer Sgt. Curt Prohaska responded to a 911 call around 11:10 a.m. at Branched Oak State Recreation Area. The man declined medical attention at the scene.

The boat, valued at $31,500, was later recovered by a towing company. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
