A Lincoln family got quite a scare early Thursday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says their home near 40th and Yankee Hill Road caught fire after being struck by lightning around 12:20 a.m. She tells KLIN News firefighters found light smoke coming from the roof of the home when they arrived.
Lierman says crews then went inside. “They found a small fire in the attic and it was growing.” She says the crews were able to quickly extinguish it. The residents made it out safely, but had to be displaced due to power being shut off.
Damage is estimated at $50,000. Lierman says they put tarps down to prevent further damage from the storm.
