A Palmyra man has been charged in connection with the death of Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Kyle McAcy, who was killed during a snowstorm while responding to a crash on Interstate 80 in February.

KLIN media partner 1011 Now reports: 56-year-old Thomas Jordan was charged Thursday in Cass County Court with one count of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment on August 26.

The incident took place on February 17 near Ashland, where Trooper McAcy and another trooper were assisting at the scene of a crash involving two vehicles and a Nebraska Department of Transportation snow plow. Authorities say McAcy had been speaking with Jordan, the plow driver, when the vehicle reversed and struck him.

Trooper McAcy, a 10-year veteran of the NSP, died at the scene. He served in multiple roles including crisis negotiator and carrier enforcement officer, and was stationed in Omaha. He was a graduate of NSP Camp 56 and wore badge #302.

The case was under investigation from February to May.

Nebraska State Patrol released this statement today on social media:

Today’s news is difficult for many and brings back terrible memories of that snowy day earlier this year when we lost Trooper Kyle McAcy #302. We will always honor his life and the service he provided to the state of Nebraska.

Thank you to all who have helped Kyle’s family and our NSP team in the months since that awful day. ❤
