Heat Index Forecast Update Sunday and Monday: 115 Degrees

UPDATE 1:55 PM Saturday, July 26, 2025.

…EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON SUNDAY TO 8 PM CDT MONDAY…

Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115 expected across portions of southwest and west central Iowa and east central, northeast, and southeast Nebraska.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

While the humidity never left additional heat is forecast back in the area this weekend into early next week. Expect heat indices back in the 100s, especially Sunday and Monday.

As of Saturday Morning, Extreme Heat Watches have been issued for Sunday and Monday.  Heat Index up to 109 degrees is possible Sunday and 111 degrees on Monday.

For the first Extreme Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 109 possible. For the second Extreme Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 possible.

The watches cover Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa.
