LFR To Offer 200 Key Storage Boxes to Help During Emergencies

Lincoln Fire and Rescue will be offering nearly 200 Knox Box kits this week to help first responders get into a home during an emergency without causing damage.  “They’re good for people with exiting medical or physical conditions that can make them unable to answer the door in an emergency,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman.

She says the secured boxes are designed to hold one key to the front door that emergency crews can open and easily access the home.  The boxes will be handed out at Aging Partners Parking lot near 70th and Victory Park Road Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon.

“The person needs us to bring us a key to put in the box.  “We secure it into the box and then we send you home with the Knox Box,” Lierman says.  “They can be hung over the top of your front door.”  She says the kits come with screws if you want to secure the box to your door.
