Firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a house fire near 14th and Arapahoe Street after smoke was reported filling a home.
According to Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokesperson MJ Lierman, three residents were home at the time and were able to evacuate safely. Crews located the fire in a second-floor closet. Two household cats were unaccounted for during early response efforts.
A fire investigator is assessing the extent of the damage. Lierman noted that high temperatures prompted crews to rotate more frequently to avoid heat-related injuries.
“We prepare for this,” she said. “It’s been hot all summer and this is business as usual.”
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
