A 33-year-old Lincoln woman is facing several charges after police say she crashed her van into the front of Sumner Place Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facility near 20th and Prospect around 12:15 Tuesday afternoon.

“When officers arrived, they found a gray van lying on its passenger side against the building with the female driver and sole occupant of the vehicle still inside,” says LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas.

The van blocked the entrance of the facility, but no one inside was hurt. “According to witness accounts, the vehicle was speeding east when it went over the curb of S. 20th, hit a retaining wall, a tree, a pillar support of a car port and then flipped on its side.”  Thomas says the van then hit the front glass doors of the facility.  Heather Garcia was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Garcia was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, no valid registration, no drivers license and carrying a concealed handgun while under the influence.
