LPD To Crack Down On Street Work Zone Violations

By Tom Stanton Jul 30, 2025 | 3:17 PM

Lincoln Police will spend the month of August cracking down on an ongoing issue.  Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says Southeast Team officers will be focusing on unlawful driving in street work zones.

“The project is in response to complaints by residents regarding illegal turns within construction areas, speeding through work zones and other unsafe practices that endanger drivers, pedestrians and the crews striving to improve Lincoln’s infrastructure,” Thomas says.

“These dedicated patrols will allow officers to address violations directly without being diverted by other calls for service.”  The overtime hours will be funded via a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, pay attention and obey all traffic laws, especially in construction zones.  Residents are encouraged to report issues that would benefit from additional law enforcement presence to the Lincoln Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit.
