Lincoln Police say an officer was assaulted by a man at Pentzer Park near 27th and Potter after hours Friday morning. LPD’S Erika Thomas 54-year-old Ronald Burns was in the park around 1:00 a.m. when the officer contacted him.
Burns appeared highly intoxicated and when asked multiple times for his name and ID, he said he was going to walk away,” Thomas says. “Burns then threw a blanket at the officer, pushed the officer when instructed to stop walking away and used a mop handle with a broken off mop head to slam the top of the officer’s foot several times during the ensuing struggle.”
Thomas says Burns then kicked the officer in the back while being handcuffed. Burns was ultimately arrested, treated at the hospital for a small laceration on his face and then taken to the Lancaster County Jail.
He was booked for assault on an officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and criminal trespass. “We are grateful our officer only suffered pain from the incident but no injuries,” Thomas says.
