The Nebraska State Patrol will launch an intensified enforcement effort this weekend as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, aiming to reduce crashes caused by impaired or unsafe driving.

From August 16 through September 1, troopers statewide will work overtime, focusing on stopping dangerous driving behaviors. Superintendent Colonel Bryan Waugh noted the end of summer brings heavier traffic with school starting, the Nebraska State Fair, and Husker sports events.

Since Memorial Day, troopers have made 318 DUI arrests — averaging four per day — and Waugh stressed that “every DUI arrest has the potential of saving lives.” The campaign is supported by grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, avoid impaired driving, put away distractions, follow speed limits, and always wear seatbelts.
