Nebraska Business Response Survey Report

A statewide business survey shows the vast majority of owners were negatively impacted by COVID-19.

The Nebraska Business Response Survey Report shows 87-percent of the 4,500 businesses who responded suffered hits.

State Director for Business Development Kathy Lang says the report shows the breadth and depth of what happened.

“The impact is vast, touching every part of Nebraska and every industry in Nebraska,” she says.

She says arts and entertainment, food services, and health care were the most affected.

Eighty-nine percent say they lost revenue but are managing to keep hours and employees.

“Let’s just say that our businesses and organizations are doing all they can to keep the economy of Nebraska going.”

The top concerns reported were finances, duration of the outbreak and decrease in consumer confidence spending.

Revising COVID-19 Death Rates Across the United States

Some states are revising death rates from the new coronavirus making a distinction from “dying with” to “dying from.”

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says the doctor and medical examiner make the decision.

“There are all sorts of standards and procedures and rules regarding how they’re supposed to make that decision.  There are published guidelines out there for how those doctors and medical examiners do that.  They’re supposed to be following those guidelines and we’re going to report what they decide.”

The majority of Nebraskans who’ve died have had underlying health conditions.
