As mask wearing is more popular, there are growing concerns and frustrations surrounding iPhone security.
GenR8 Marketing CEO Jason Petersen tells KLIN News wearing a mask limits facial recognition options.
“If people are worried about someone being able to fake the face unlock, I can assure them, it is so outrageously detailed, that even once they figure out how to do it with a mask, applicants do not cut any corners when it relates to that kind of stuff,” Petersen says.
Petersen says Apple allows for a second option for facial recognition but added your phone may not always authenticate it.
“Right now, it’s a little unreliable. You can try to do it, but what I’m reading is it is getting mixed results. Sometimes it will accept an authentication with a different face – with a mask, or without a mask. What I’m telling people is to try it.”
The ‘Alternate Appearance’ setting is available under Settings in the Face ID and Passcode folder.
