A color-coded dial that indicates the local risk of COVID-19 spread is downgraded for the second week in a row.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced Friday that the Lincoln-Lancaster County COVID-19 risk dial has shifted from “upper yellow” to “mid yellow” range, indicating a moderate spread risk.
“The reason for the dial change is that our indicators continue to improve,” said the mayor, who also provided a word of warning.
“This risk od COVID-19 remains a concern,” she said.”We can continue to make this kind of great progress if we remain vigilant.”
The mayor stressed that residents need to continue to social distance, wear facemasks, and wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds.
Interim Lancaster County Health Director Pat Lopez says, overall, Lincoln has actually responded well to the pandemic.
“We avoided an influx of positive cases early on,” said Lopez. “We have been able to minimize potential outbreaks to this point.”
Lopez also noted that Lancaster County continues to see a declining positivity rate and local hospitals continue to report a decline in cases.
Even so, Lopez added to the mayor’s warning.
“Now is not the time to become complacent,” she said.
An additional 14 individuals testing positive for COVID-19 was also announced Friday, bringing the community total of lab-confirmed cases to 1,443.
